Teaching Assistant in Fiji

I have taken part in various experiences in my life, be it work or personally related. These experiences have really helped to broaden my horizons about life, teaching me more about myself and the working environment.

I feel that due to these experiences I have become a more well rounded indivudial.

In July 2010 I travelled independently to Suva, Fiji to become a teaching assistant for one month. I had booked this through Frontier who selected the accommodation and school I would be teaching in. I was given an all-boys Primary 1 class, in which I would be teaching English, Art and some Maths. During my month I carried out general teaching duties, to assist the teacher including preparing lesson plans and talking the class for lessons other than my planned classes.
I was given the responsibility of being left on my own with a class of 30 children on several occasions. I feel my biggest accomplishment in relating to the children was the reading ability of a Dyslexic child who I had on a one to one basis daily. In the month I was there his reading skills had improved beyond the teacher’s expectations.  This entire experience has taught me valuable lifelong lessons, responsibility, time management, planning and countless others. Given the chance I would go back in a heartbeat!

In January 2010 to August 2010  I Worked with Primary 1 through 5 carrying out general classroom assistant duties, and helping on a one to on basis. The range of duties carried out myself ranged from day to day, office duties, clerical duties and also assiting in the teaching of children.  This was on a 2 hour volunteer basis per week.

I have been Class Representative from 2010 to 2012 in College, and again have been chosen to be Class Representative in UWS.  Over the years this role has allowed to me to exercise leadership and help to initiate change. I have been able voice the opinions of others by acting as a liaison between Program Leaders and the students.
I have been able to adapt to difficult situations and maintain confidentiality at all times.
As well as represent my class and/or Program at Student councils and other meetings in with the University.
